Gonzales Observatory

The tiny 2-hectare Gonzales Hill Regional Park is the smallest park in Victoria's CRD Park system. The main feature of the park is the Gonzales Observatory, built in 1914. The old observatory was a weather station for 75 years, and has now been declared a heritage building.

Visitors who divert from the scenic route along Victoria's Beach Drive are rewarded with magnificent views from the elevated site of the observatory, including a panorama of the Juan de Fuca Strait and the Olympic Mountains in Washington state.

The island seen offshore from McNeill Bay is the provincial ecological reserve of Trial Island, which protects numerous rare and endangered species of plants and wildflowers.

Gonzales Hill Regional Park is located on Gonzales Hill on Denison Road, off Beach Road in Victoria.
